d: is not accessible?
older gateway gp6-350 desktop computer is giving me the error message d: is not accessible the device is not ready.
here is what i have tried…
switched cds – nothing
changed ribbon cable – nothing
changed jumper to slave instead of master – nothing
switched out cd rom drives – nothing
tried a different power cable – nothing
removed it from device manager – nothing
it knows there is a cd-rom drive, but it will not read the disc. CD does spin
computer is only used for games, (not for internet) but would like to do a clean install using CD. anyone have any suggestions?

if its a bad drive, then has it done the EXACT same thing on 2 other cd roms that i have tried?
i have tried two different CD roms, three including the one thats in there (orginal) It does the EXACT same thing on ALL THREE drives, indicating it’s not the cd rom….
The only one of the “standard” fixes you did not list to move the CD drive to a different IDE controller. If it is on the same ribbon as the hard drive, try moving it to a separate cable (and IDE controller) by itself.
