Clucking Noise Question about VR on a Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom Nikkor Lens. help please!?
I’ve just received my brand new Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom Nikkor Lens
and when i shoot it in normal mode with VR switched off, all is well and camera autofocus is very smooth. BUT WHEN I SWITCH TO VR, the camera does take pictures and all but the lens makes weird plastic noises, and when u half press the button to take a picture it makes a strange noise and after u release it it makes another clunchking/clicking noise which just doesnt sound well. My question is DO ALL VR lenses have that strong clucking/slight vibration noise when you operate them???

just noticed that the image also shifts a bit left to right when u look through the viewfinder and release the button after u took a picture… (that of course acompanied by a strange plastic clunking noise)
The noise is the rear elements of the lens adjusting for the camera/lens movement. If you try the lens on a tripod, in the VR mode, the noise should stop
Bottom line, if the images are sharp all is well, but at the minimum, I would take the camera and lens into a camera shop and get their opinion.
My 18-200mm makes a little noise when in the VR mode, but I would not say it vibrates.
