nikkor 18-200 mm vr ii or nikkor 55-200 mm vr?
hello,
i own a nikon d5000 with kit 18-55mm and would like to get a zoom lens and am confused abt the quality between the two lenses and which would be better for me..i take landscape,outdoor (like sm birds near my house.etc) portraits (both indoor and outdoor) and macro smtimes..
i also heard that 18-200 mm vr lacks quality,is it true

The Nikkor 55-200mm VR will most definitely give better quality than the 18-200mm in the matching focal lengths. Why? The 18-200mm lens, being a super-zoom lens, has to make some optical comprimises in return for the versatility and usefulness of it, while the 55-200mm lens doesn’t have to make much compromises because the zoom range is so much smaller.
In the end, getting the 55-200mm lens makes so much more sense, not just for the better quality, but also because you already own an 18-55mm lens (getting a 18-200mm lens will just duplicate the 18-55mm range that you already have from your kit lens).
With the $500 or so left over, might as well make up your decision on getting a third lens. Personally, I’d recommend a fast prime such as the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G or the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G, or if you’re into macro, get the Nikkor 60mm f/2.8G macro lens.
