What is the difference between 35mm and 55mm?
I am interested in the new AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G. What is the difference between 35mm and 55mm. From my understanding, 35mm will give me a wider frame.
I have a Nikon D40 and would like to shoot more indoors without a flash.
The 35mm f/1.8 will be a nice indoor lens however, because your only going to be using the inside 2/3rds of the image, the so called 1.5 crop factor comes into play and you will NOT get a very wide image. The 35mm lens will now ‘see’ as a 52.5mm lens and that is not very wide.
Your best looking into something that is wider yet, and Nikon’s 12~24mm may be the ticket, or others around it with these numbers. However, none are very fast lenses and indoor, low light, no flash will be harder.
I have a 16mm f/2.8 that works out to about a 24mm on my cameras, and one of these may be something you may want to think about. Nikon also has 18mm lenses as well.
