Nikkon D40X or Nikkon D80?
I noticed the d40x only accepts lenses with the autofocus motor in the lense while the D80 accepts standard lenses. So what I guess I’m asking….Wil the cost of the lenses for the d40 make it more money spent than the d80 in the long run after buying a macro lense and such? I ve had trouble finding lower cost lenses for the d40x……I’d love some good opinions. If it were me, I’d get the D80. That’s because some of the best Nikon lenses, the 35mm f/2.0, the 50mm f/1.8 and f/1.4, the 85mm f/1.8 and f/1.8, and the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 don’t have motors in them and so, won’t AF with the D40x. They will meter and manually focus, but I like having AF. That makes the D80 the better choice IMHO.
Another option: a used D50, the precursor to the D40/D40x, which is 6mp, but will work with the regular AF lenses as well as the AF-S lenses.
