Overpruned my Hydrangeas?
Here is a link to photos of 4 Nikko Hydrangeas which I planted in late Spring. The one that looks the best had no blooms. The one that looks the worst had the most blooms. However, the blooms and stems were floppy. Before I realized that I could fix this by staking them, I pruned several stems. Will they grow back? Or have I ruined a couple of them? Can they still grow lush and full or will they remain skimpy due to my pruning? Thanks so much!

Don’t despair! The plant will come out of it. By mistake I pruned my Oakleaf Hydrangea’s off to the ground a couple of years ago. The Oakleaf buds on old wood and after a year of watching the plants came out of it just fine.
Plants are very resilient. Your Nikko Blues will be just fine. I have several in my yard and they are beautiful plants. For more Nikko Blue hydrangea pruning information:
