Excalibur John Boorman
Excalibur John Boorman
What movie scenes readily play over and over in your mind at any given time?
For me it’d have to be….
(possible spoiler alerts)
1) The bridge over the River Kwai exploding, with the train collapsing into the gorge;
2) The giant shark tips the Orca downwards, with Robert Shaw sliding into its gaping jaws;
3) Neo and Trinity shoot-up first level security during their rescue of Morpheus in “The Matrix”;
4) The Dude first meets the Nihilists while taking a bath, in “The Big Lebowski”;
and
5) The bloodied sword Excalibur is returned to the Lady of the Lake in the last few moments of John Boorman’s “Excalibur”.
To name a few….
1) Madeline Kahn singing “Glory, glory, hallelujah” while brushing her hair in “Young Frankenstein.” I even find myself singing it in the shower sometimes, complete with her singing the trumpet fanfare: “Duuuuuuut, dut-dut, dut-dut, dah”
2) The warden tearing down the Raquel Welch poster in “The Shawshank Redemption” and looking shocked at finding the tunnel.
3) Clive closing the shutters at the end of “Maurice” and conjuring one last bittersweet memory of Maurice.
4) The chase through San Francisco towards the end of “What’s Up Doc,” particularly the Chinese dragon in the Chinese New Year parade — WITH the marching band playing “La Cucaracha” [sublimely daffy].
5) Cloris Leachman as Frau Blucher in “Young Frankenstein” when she declares, “Yes! YES! Say it! He — Vass — My — Boyfriend!”
Excalibur – Le Crépuscule des Dieux.
